The Bespoke Process

Commissioning a bespoke piece of jewellery is an exciting experience!

Not to be confused with ‘custom’ jewellery - which typically means choosing from a few options (such as your stones or metal) for a mass produced design - bespoke jewellery enables you to have final say over every single aspect, resulting in a completely unique, one-off design made just for you.

Whether you’re looking for an engagement ring, wedding bands, remodelling heirloom jewellery, or you want something completely new - you’re paying for our undivided care, attention, time, and expertise in order to create your perfect piece.

Read on to find out what happens in each stage of the process, so you know exactly what to expect. On average, it can take between 8 to 12 weeks from initial consultation to completion.

  • Stage 1: Consultation

The bespoke process begins when you book a consultation to visit us in our design studio. During the consultation we will discuss your style, budget, deadline, and any ideas or inspiration images you have to share with us. We’ll also discuss how many design options you’d like us to come up with. If you have your own stones or precious metals you’d like to use, this is when you can show us so we can check if they will be suitable. Don’t worry if you’re not sure what you want, that’s what we’re here for!

  • Stage 2: Design

We use Computer Aided Design (CAD) to produce realistic 3D visuals of your bespoke design. Each initial design has a non-refundable fee of £90, which will go towards the cost of your bespoke jewellery if you decide to go ahead. We’ll send the design to you for feedback along with a quote, and then make any necessary revisions until you’re completely happy. It’s common for people to be slightly thrown off by the CAD visuals as they can look bulkier than the final piece will. We rely on your honest feedback, so if you don’t like something, please tell us!

  • Stage 3: Production

Once you’re happy with a final design, we’ll send you an order confirmation and request a non-refundable 50% deposit. We do this to cover the cost of materials, so we can begin production of your bespoke jewellery! From the CAD model we produced in the design stage, your jewellery is then manufactured using 3D printing and precious metal investment casting. Stone setting, details such as engraving, and polishing is all done by hand us.ng traditional goldsmithing techniques.

  • Stage 4: Delivery

When your bespoke jewellery is ready, we’ll package it up beautifully along with any documentation for certified diamonds or gemstones. We’ll send you an invoice for the remaining balance of your order, and contact you to arrange collection in person or to have it delivered. We only used guaranteed next day delivery so it’s fully tracked, insured and signed-for. We also offer a twice-yearly, complimentary cleaning service for your bespoke jewellery - get in touch to arrange by emailing hello@ldstudio.uk.
